Sleepy Sunday
Wooden seat
Neighbours talk
Resting feet.
Sleepy Sunday,
Dogs chase,
Sticks thrown.
Youths race.
Sleepy Sunday,
Sunday lunch.
Pub open,
Happy bunch.

"Hey, I really like this one. It's short, but very catchy. I like, I like. Keep writing!" - Alisha
"I love the way you started out with Sleepy Sunday and continued with it. It falls so well. I read it aloud several times just to hear it flow. They always say poetry is better when you read it aloud. This is one that should be! " - Bobby

Where, in the tranquillity of the English countryside,
A village rests, but welcomes all to its heart.
Where in the springtime, the blossom bursts forth,
To announce that nature will play its part.
And the grasses on the common, grow fast
Calling out for that first cut of the year.
When the smell of the newly mown grass,
Pervades the air and brings all cheer.
And children and dogs run wild upon the land
In circles of ever increasing laughter, ah such days.
And as the Summer reaches fullness in its season,
Church bells sound through shimmering haze.
And when the Autumn presents its finest show,
Of brown and gold such is the message clear.
Of something special, a transition to come.
Nothing dark, nothing to really fear.
For when the mantle of Winters frost or snow,
Spreads across the common, and all the trees.
What beauty this cold brings to our heart,
When in darkness, such light is bought to these.
And even when the life shelters from the cold,
A new spark is being nurtured for the coming Spring.
Ready for that explosion of beauty in life itself,
A new dawn for all the birds here to sing.
