Mindings - The Elfin Page

Firefly Eyes

If you ever see the elfin folk
You’ll think you are a dreaming
For mists will rise with elfin glow
Their magic spells a scheming

Elfin folk live quite near
And yet you’ll never know
Their living is, but on the mist
A magic lantern show.

But I have shared their mystic lives,
I’ve seen the elfin child.
With emerald skin so wafer thin,
And firefly eyes so wild.

I’ve shared their story circles.
An honour, oh so rare.
But risky for we mortals,
With tender minds to scare.

Returning to my own world
The elfin world passed by
But late at night I sometimes see
A glimpse of firefly.

A Lonely Cry

Faerie caught in moonbeam shaft
Drawn up by the rising draught
Of wishes cast into the light
By a child alone upon this night

Faerie hears the cry that came
And parents two could bear no blame
No fault alone that they had parted
Except in that of which they started

Faerie sees a child that’s lost
For all his life will bear a cost
And all this borne by one too young
Just starting on life’s bottom rung

Faerie bonds to human soul
With all the heat of burning coal
Sacrificing its own part
To dwell within this human heart

The Guardian of Lore

And whence I came upon this green and wonderous land
To wander in Faerie glades and Elfin woods
To behold the shimmering lights and mists at dawn
And bathe in the milk of countless aphids

And whence I came, I did not stay too long, for times moved on
And that strange and earthly race, bestowed with our likeness
Had raised the glades, cut down the elfin woods
And poisoned the very place that fed its kind

But whilst I stayed, I gathered round the remnants of the lore
Still here though small in numbers now, protected by invisibilty
Protected by disbelief. Strange that such attitudes help.
A gift from the one above all, The one that knows.

I conversed with those dear friends and promised them a home.
Displaced by frequency and time, phase shifted from reality,
Into a realm anew, fresh and where only those pure at heart may roam.
This new, this very new green and wonderous land

Long ago in Ferrindell

A myriad of fireflies
A host of emerald wings
In Ferrindell my other home
Within the Elfin Rings

Call Ramashanks and Whortlecrisp
To tell an Elfin tale
Behind the Sun before the Moon
And taste some Elfin Ale

Oh how I long for days long gone
When I was just beguiled
By adventure in this other world
Just me and the Elfin Child

The Visit

I walked upon the Ashridge trails
Through winter wood, invoking tails
Of Elfin Law and Magick Spell
Made within this forest dell

My friend, told much to me that day
As we passed a rill along the way
The water adding its sweet sound
To footfall on this hallowed ground

And shafts of light from morning sun
Breaks through the bows, my eyes to stun
And sparkling illusion shimmers to bend
The light upon my woodland friend

Laughter now, he has that way
In friendship it’s his time to say
He has to go, we lingered too long
And all that I hear is the Elfin Song

Aeolian chimes, now some would hear
Those that have a sensitive ear
But I know different, within my self
Aeolius came, My friend the Elf

Tiki

The faerie scythe cuts the web
To harvest the finest silk
To make the Tiki maiden veil
Washed in aphid milk

A thousand wings upon the air
Cool the silken thread
As tiny needles stitch and sow
For Tiki to be wed

A mortal love has turned her head
This night she’ll lose her wings
This parting gift her friends will give
 The magic crystal sings

To weave a transformation spell
She’ll keep her beauty too
And for one whole life upon this earth
Her Tiki love be true

The Crystal Stream

I walk softly, cautiously, one step in front of the other
Trying so hard not to break a twig or rustle leaves
Deeper, yet deeper into the Elfin Wood looking, listening
Is he here? Is he watching? Is he waiting?

After so, so long and when I feel truly alone
No birds singing, no wood creatures rustling nearby
I reach the crystal stream, where the water is pure
Unspoiled and cold as the water ripples past

I look into a smaller pool at the side where the water is still
And there, in the reflection, I see him
The Elfin Child, looking back, looking deeply into my soul
And we smile at each other, knowing the truth, the real truth

The Dream and the Dreamer

The dream and the dreamer sang in tune
In the light of the willow tree moon
They danced on the surface of the rippling brook
In this crystal night of June

The dream and the dreamer were as one that night
Like a dragonfly with its wings
And their love affair took flight that night
Blessed by Elfin Rings

The dream and the dreamer had limited time
They knew that deep inside
But for the time they had, 'twas bliss
In this glade they both could hide
